Weathering The Storm

20 Years After Hurricane Katrina

It’s been 20 years since Hurricane Katrina made landfall, but the storm never really ended. Not for the people. Not for the culture. And not for the Gulf.

Watch the Series

For many of us, we’ve continued to weather the storm for 20 years. “Weathering the Storm” is a powerful limited series marking the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina as both a history lesson and as a living, ongoing story. Through the voices of survivors, artists, and frontline leaders, this series traces how a city drowned by government failure, systemic racism, and environmental neglect sparked a rebirth of Black culture, resistance, and joy. It is a story of grief—and of power.

As sea levels rise and storms grow fiercer, “Weathering the Storm” challenges viewers to see Katrina not as a singular event, but as a warning. The disasters we call “natural” are too often the product of human choices—fossil fuel expansion, disinvestment, and the ongoing legacy of environmental racism. This is not just a reflection on what was lost, but a rallying cry for what must be built.

The next 20 years depend on the action we take now: To invest in climate justice, center frontline communities, and demand accountability from those who profit from destruction.
